Anytime you have egg shells for the trash, please consider our feathered friends; crushed egg shells mixed into their bird feed provide the birds with a nice protein boost!
Free Vegetable Stock!

If you use a lot of store bought vegetable, chicken, or beef stock, you already know how darn expensive it is. Making and freezing your own stock is absolutely FREE!

I take a gallon size freezer bag that I gradually add to until it is full. Save any potato water after boiling potatoes, vegetable scraps; including the ends of carrots and parsnips, cabbage, escarole, onions, garlic, juices leftover from roasting a chicken or beef, and especially lemons, umm, so good. The next time you need stock in a recipe:

1) Empty your bag of stock into a pot
2) Bring to a boil
3) Turn back heat to low, and simmer for a few hrs
4) strain the broth and discard of any whole pieces
5) Your stock is ready, now lets get cooking!
